The audience composed of BSN students, RNs from different
hospitals in the region & other independent practitioners coming from
different sectors (social development, research & social sciences).
Seminar proper started with an invocation & national anthem leaded by Pamantasan ng Cabuyao Chorale. Opening remarks given by Dr. Vicente Castillo (Vice President for Academic Affairs). Dr. Castillo ponder that nurses are employable to market due to diversity of our profession.
First guest speaker was introduced by Ma. Patricia Rose Bolivar, President of Pamantasan ng Cabuyao, BSN Batch 2013. Ms. Bolivar introduced John Christopher Canceran, RN, a former clinical researcher at Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM) and currently employed as clinic nurse at HRD Diagnostic Clinic & Specialty Service. Mr. Canceran reiterated the importance of research in the development of nursing as a science.
Next guest speaker is again introduced by Ms. Bolivar, an epitome of youth leadership & nursing management, Mr. Alvin Cloyd Dakis, RN, President & CEO of the Alliance of Young Nurse Leaders & Advocates (AYNLA) International, Inc., gave a 2 hour speech regarding the advancement of nursing practice & role diversity of RNs in the Philippines. Some notable parts of the address include:
"Conducting a research separates nursing to other professions, that makes as a science"
"Sobrang diverse tayo, pwede kayo maging nurse journalist, nurse entrepreneur, telehealth nurse, nurse eventologist at marami pang iba!"
"We became hybrid nurses, as we touch different fields of other professions"
Before closing his talk, Mr. Dakis encouraged graduating students of Pamantasan ng Cabuyao - Laguna to participate in uplifting health of the community by becoming a public health nurse or be involved in the community.
Mr. John Claude de Guzman, Chapter Mayor of Laguna Chapter, AYNLA International also gave his solidarity message & wonderful insights regarding role diversity of nurses for the 21st century.
Closing remarks is given by Dean Herman Zoleta, RN, MAN. Dean Zoleta sensationalized that after this seminar, a job fair will be better to maximize the clinical appraisal undergone by their students.
Indeed, we will become hybrids in the future due to the nature of nurses being curious, caring & constant longing for adventure. These are all due to our intense training during our related learning experience (RLE) days, clinical appraisals & heavy involvement to community mobilization towards better & healthier individuals & families.
After days work, I would like to give commendation with the working committee of AYNLA - Laguna Chapter for the success of the event. May advance practice, education & research prosper within this region.
